Happy Galentine’s Day 2023 – Who are your gal pals?

What is G-Day? How did it get started? How is it helpful?

On a snowy, wintry day, girls go to Brunch! A great idea to celebrate Galentine's Day 2023! Go to Chief O'Neil's!

Happy Galentine’s Day 2023 – Who are your gal pals? Miriam-Webster says it’s: a holiday observed on February 13th as a time to celebrate friendships especially among women

Happy Galentine’s Day 2023 – Who are your gal pals?

How did it get started? Galentine’s Day was founded by a badass fictional character: Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation. The friend-filled holiday dates back over a decade to season two, episode 16 of Parks and Rec.

How is it helpful? It is a day of ladies celebrating ladies, and cheering each other on! I love that we have an unofficial reason to just have fun with our girlfriends, so how can you celebrate it? How about a margarita and chips night?  I have a perfect pairing: a Woman-Owned Tequila Company and my favorite Siete Chips – also a Woman-Owned Company!  Both offer a delicious product, that is high quality and has a woman at the helm, making the decisions that go into all the goodness.

What does supporting other women look like? An easy one above, is buying from women-owned companies and spreading the word about them where you can. Another one is gathering up your girlfriends and connecting with them on work, family, life.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate is to go out to dinner with  my girlfriends & catch up on all the fabulous (and not-so-fabulous) things that have been happening in their lives.  Sometimes we play a game like Never Have I Ever, here’s how:

Never Have I Ever gets players to fess up to questionable behavior. Each player starts the game by holding up 5 fingers. Participants take turns making “Never Have I Ever…” statements, and players must lower one finger if guilty of the behavior. The game ends when only one player still has fingers up or after a certain number of rounds.

Here are a few :Never Have I Ever” prompts:

  • Learned how to ride a bike
  • Been to Australia
  • Been skydiving
  • Bought ice cream from an ice cream truck
  • Met a celebrity
  • Been on TV
  • Been horseback riding
  • Won a contest
  • Had more than 2 siblings
  • Swam in the ocean
  • Read an entire book in one day
  • Been Black Friday shopping
  • Beaten a video game
  • Been a member of a wedding party
  • Bought a piece of clothing that cost more than $100
  • Driven a sports car
  • Owned a trampoline

This gives you an idea of something to talk about if it’s been awhile!  My experience has been once we all get together and the drinks & apps begin to flow, so does the conversation:)  While Galentine’s Day may be a made up Girls Holiday, it reminds me that our relationships are precious, both in the office, in our business and in our personal lives.  If you find that you struggle in this area and want to build more space in your life for gal pals, here are a few tips.

3 Tips for Finding and Keeping friends:

  1. For finding new friends try looking online! It’s just like online dating, honestly. More on this later.
  2. For rekindling acquaintances: Offer to meet virtually for coffee, or wine in-person, be the one to reach out first.
  3. For keeping your friends close: Find the time to connect. Text them and set up a time to walk and talk as you walk the dog, or the beach or both. Send them a note or a card in the mail. Have Instacart deliver flowers and chocolate just because.

On finding new girlfriends, I’ll share a quick story. Last year, my goal was to find new girlfriends who were entrepreneurs or wanted to be and I met a few that have become great friends. How did I do it?  One of my new friends moved from Brooklyn, NY to Key West, FL as a yoga instructor. I met her after a yoga class and we started talking and found we had a lot in common. Now we text and laugh and when I’m back in the Keys, we hang out like crazy! I am so proud of her, watching her business bloom, seeing how she’s grown in her relationships, laughing and crying together of things we’ve tried and failed at, and places we’ve seen great success.  She’s amazing, inspiring and grounding for me and I hope I bring inspiration, belief and respect to our relationship for her.  Check out her profile on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/integrated.form/?hl=en

Another place where I met a fantastic group of ladies last year was in a business development group that I joined called The Legacy Brand Creator. I want to grow my coaching business this year, and this is the place where I get guidance, instruction from a team of industry experts, and support on next steps.  Little did I know the powerful women that would grace my path along the way!  We met at an in person event at a sweet vineyard in Temecula called La Fata Vineyard. It was a magical weekend! We went horseback riding, took a hot air balloon ride, drank a lot of wine and of course, worked on our businesses together.  Since that weekend, we have also traveled together, met in person, on the phone and shared our business journeys. So inspirational!

And finally, I am getting my Life Coach School Certification this year and really wanted a Live Co-Hort to study and practice with, but the new training model is self-paced and lonely.  After a few weeks, I started reaching out to other coaches, and found a live week long webinar that Brooke Castillo was leading, so I decided to watch the recordings.  I was able to catch the last day live, and in the chat, started talking to a few of the students who wanted to finish their certifications in 90 days like me.  So, we took our conversation offline, created a WhatsApp group and we are 17 strong! 2 of us have reached certification already and we’re planning a trip to Miami to celebrate next month!

Reviewing my goal of meeting like-minded women who are business owners, positive, supportive and fun has been eye-opening, to be sure!  I am so glad I set this goal, took massive action and didn’t let my thoughts get in the way. And I had many thoughts about this, if you feel the same way, and this is one of your goals this year, please start taking massive action, you will thank yourself at the end of the year!

If you need support around change, reinvention and taking massive action in your life this year, consider a laser focused coaching call, I would love to help you land your dream goals this year!
