The Charged Life is Possible, but most people are living a Caged Life – Read on to see which camp you fall into and 10 easy things that you can do to shift yours today.

You have more energy than you’ve ever had, you’re in the best shape of your life, and you can hardly wait to wake up tomorrow and jump right into your work!
These are the three emotional realities coming out of the baseline human condition and there is a way to get from the caged life, through the comfortable life into the charged life. I’ve seen it, first hand, in my own life, through my client’s who show up every week, put in the work and make the hard changes necessary to transcend caged to charged. But where do you even begin? By studying the 10 human drivers that make each of us feel most alive and satisfied in our human experience.

As a Certified High Performance Coach, I get asked a lot how I keep my overall energy high and maintain a steady state of happiness. Truth is, I set the intention everyday to generate high energy and look for things in my life that make me grateful, fill my passionate expression of who I am, and how I take care of the people in my life. Some days are better than others, but for the most part, by setting this intention, my steady state of readiness is more even-keeled and allows me to get more done in less time. How did I discover this? By taking the initial 10 Human Drives Assessment with my business coach and finding areas of my life that I could uplevel, upskill, and challenge myself. This is why I became a coach myself, because of the massive change I could see in my own life, and have seen in countless clients’ lives.
When I work with a client, one of the first things we do is an assessment to review the last 6 months of their life. We go through a few assessments, one is this 10 Human Drives Assessment tool that I mentioned. Every time we use this tool, whether it’s a new client or a repeat client, it is an eye-opening experience into where they are, and how they can change direction to get back on track, or level up slightly to increase their performance. It doesn’t mean that every area is perfect, that’s not attainable in real time typically, what it does mean is taking an honest look at rating each category and devising a strategy to get one or two areas up to where you want it to be.
What do we assess, you ask?
There are 10 main themes in the questions I ask:
- Control
- Competence
- Congruence
- Caring
- Connection
- Change
- Challenge
- Creative Expression
- Contribution
- Consciousness
Once we have covered all ten extensively, and arrived at a benchmark of the areas of life in business that you want to work on, then we use a second lens to look at your overall feelings about where you are right now. How do we measure that? Through 3 areas of emotional realities:
- Caged – exactly what you think, you are feeling like you are caught in a cage, stuck, blaming, no one else understands.
- Comfortable – this at first seems like the perfect place to be, right? But, there’s a catch, even though you have reached all your goals, happiness still eludes you.
- Charged – days go by and you are having fun, doing what you love, without a sense of time passing, you feel excited about what you’re working on, ready to jump out of bed every morning and get going!
Getting to the Charged Life is the goal, every time. Are you living energetically in your strengths, doing what you love, working with people you admire, leading from a place of having a bigger purpose? As a High Performer, how do you measure this?
