Mastering Your Physiology for Leadership and Impact

Mastering Your Physiology for Leadership and Impact

As a woman in a leadership role, your energy and presence are crucial for your success. High-performing women have mastered the art of activating their physiology in a way that amplifies their energy, confidence, and impact. In this article, we’ll revisit the concept of physiology and provide you with tools to elevate your physical presence and optimize your energy.

Energy: The Foundation of High Performance

Energy is the cornerstone of high performance. When you have abundant energy, you feel more vibrant, focused, and capable. You can tackle challenges with ease, stay productive throughout the day, and radiate an aura of confidence that inspires others. However, when your energy levels dip, you may feel sluggish, unmotivated, and less effective in your role.

Assessing Your Energy Levels

Take a moment to reflect on your energy levels over the past six weeks or months. How have you been feeling? What factors might be contributing to your current state of energy? Have you made any changes in your health, diet, or lifestyle that have impacted your energy levels?

The Power of Your Physical Presence

Your physical presence is a powerful tool for communication and influence. The way you carry yourself, your posture, voice, gestures, and facial expressions, all convey messages about your confidence, competence, and leadership potential.

Crafting Your Leadership Presence

Ask yourself: What do you want your physical presence to communicate about you to the world? Do you feel that your current posture, voice, gestures, and expressions align with this desired image? If not, what adjustments can you make to project the leadership presence you desire?

The Release Meditation Technique

The Release Meditation Technique is a simple yet effective tool for releasing stress, tension, and negative emotions that can drain your energy. This technique involves focusing on your breath and releasing any physical or emotional tension that you may be holding onto. https://youtu.be/v2mY36Ho1Sk?si=2NaklwlVAAfMvEF8

Reshma Saujani is an Indian-American technology entrepreneur and author. Last year she wrote an interesting book called “Pay Up, The Future of Women and Work”.

She is the founder and CEO of Moms First a movement to center mothers in our economic recovery and value our labor by advocating for policies that support moms. She is also the former founder and CEO of Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization that aims to close the gender gap in technology by teaching young women coding skills.

Saujani is a strong advocate for the importance of physiology in leadership. She believes that by mastering their physiology, women can increase their energy, confidence, and impact.

A few of Reshma Saujani’s personal practices for physiology include:

  • Prioritizing sleep: Saujani aims to get around 7-8 hours of sleep per night. She believes that sleep is essential for her physical and mental health, and she has noticed a big difference in her energy levels and productivity when she gets enough sleep.
  • Exercising regularly: Saujani exercises regularly, typically doing a combination of cardio and strength training. She believes that exercise is important for her physical and mental health, and she has noticed a big difference in her mood and energy levels when she exercises regularly.
  • Eating a healthy diet: Saujani eats a healthy diet that is low in processed foods and high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. She recognizes that nutrition is important for her physical and mental health, and attributes the difference in her energy levels and digestion to when she eats a healthy diet.
  • Practicing mindfulness: Saujani practices mindfulness, which is the practice of paying attention to the present moment without judgment. She emphasizes the value of mindfulness for mental health, particularly its ability to alleviate stress and promote focus.

Saujani’s commitment to her personal physiology has been a key factor in her success as a leader. By prioritizing her physical and mental well-being, she has been able to maintain the high levels of energy and focus that are essential for her demanding roles of CEO, Founder, Author and Mother. Saujani’s example is an inspiration to other women in leadership, and it demonstrates that it is possible to achieve great things while also taking care of oneself.
