The A-ha Clarity Moment for Sophia
What are you reading right now? Just one book? Or like me, 3 books?! One of the books I am currently listening to on Audible is “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni. I enjoy his parable style of writing, it is so much easier to remember, which reminds me of a story…
As a Leadership Coach, I’ve seen many women leaders have these a-ha moments of clarity after a few coaching sessions. One story that stands out is Sophia’s.
Sophia’s Clarity Moment
Sophia was a successful CEO of a mid-sized company. She had been in the role for five years, and she had led the company to significant growth and profitability. However, Sophia was starting to feel restless. She had achieved everything she wanted to achieve in her current role, and she was ready for a new challenge. Sophia started to think about what she wanted to do next. She considered joining a venture capital firm, or even running a bigger company. But she wasn’t sure what her next move should be.
Sophia decided to work with a High-Performance Coach (me) to help her find her clarity. As her coach, I helped her to explore her interests, skills, and values. We also talked about her vision for the future.
In one of our sessions, Sophia was talking about her desire to run a bigger company. As her coach, I reflected to her that she had the skills and experience to run a much larger company. But she needed to be clear about why she wanted to do it. Sophia thought for a moment and then said, “I want to run a bigger company so that I can have a greater impact on the world. I want to create a company that is known for its innovation and its commitment to social responsibility.”
I smiled and said, “That’s a wonderful mission. Are you ready to go for it? Is this your time?” We spent the next few sessions answering some of the soul-searching questions to get clarity, then sketching out a plan for her, and working the steps together as she prepared for this big change. Sophia left her job as CEO and started looking for a new opportunity. She eventually found a position as CEO of a Fortune 500 company.
Sophia has been in her new role for a year now, and she is loving it. She is using her skills and experience to lead the company to new heights. She is also making a difference in the world through the company’s social responsibility initiatives and creating more opportunities for women to lead.
Sophia’s story is a reminder that it’s important to have clarity about your goals and aspirations. When you know what you want to achieve, you can make a plan to make it happen. Having a coach to learn from, process with, and confide in as a trusted advisor is the secret ingredient.
Here are some tips for finding your clarity:
- Take some time to reflect on your interests, skills, and values. What are you passionate about? What are you good at? What’s important to you in a career?
- Talk to people who inspire you. Ask them about their career paths and what they love about their work.
- Read books and articles about different career fields. Learn as much as you can about different industries and job roles.
- Work with a High Performance Coach. A coach can help you explore your options, train you on High-Performance Habits, and develop a plan to achieve your goals.
Once you have clarity about your goals, you can start taking steps to achieve them. Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself and step outside of your comfort zone. With passion fueling your work and showing up consistently, you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
